 Mort Anvari taught manufacturing and industrial systems engineering courses at the University of Michigan for five years where he received his three engineering degrees, and as an adjunct professor he teaches Leadership Development and Management courses. In his early career, he worked at General Motors as a production engineer and later as an operations research and systems analyst at the cost and economic analysis center in Washington DC.

Mort is a member of the USA Senior Executive Service (SES) served as the Director of Programs and Strategy at the ASA (FM&C) and the LSS Deployment Director where he oversaw process improvement initiatives, economic studies validation, cost-benefit analysis, and risk and uncertainty analysis in support of major defense programs.

Mort's certifications include: DoD financial management level 3, Defense Acquisition University acquisition professional in business-cost estimating Level 3,  and acquisition professional in business-financial management Level 3.

Mort has received several official and professional awards that include Distinguished Civilian Service Medal, five LEAP awards for best process improvement initiatives, and DoD modeling and simulation award.

In his public lectures, Mort educates and stimulates cost culture debates among academia, government, and industry leaders and managers. His educational site is greatly referenced by decision-makers

Professor Anvari is an expert in US-Iran conflicts has repeatedly appeared on live television programs analyzing the politics and economy of the middle east .
