COURSE DESCRIPTION: COSC 541 Data Communication Systems and Networks (3) This course will introduce the student to the concepts and terminology of data communications, network design, and distributed information systems. Equipment, protocols and transmission alternatives will be discussed. The communications environment and regulatory issues are also introduced. Prerequisite: COSC 504 Computer Concepts and Systems Software. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have a functional understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP models, media, topologies, protocols, architectures, and connectivity.
